Navigating Digital Ecosystems & Transforming Strategy with Yolande Chan

Digital technologies today are highly generic and highly specific at the same time – even a mobile phone is also a translator, a map and an entertainment system – complicating the design of organizational strategy. In the latest episode of the Delve podcast, Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management and James McGill Professor Yolande Chan discusses a “digital ecodynamics” approach to organizational strategy, where technology is at the core of strategy from the start.

This strategic lens encourages organizations to examine their own digital ecosystems within a climate of constant change, from the multiple technologies co-existing within an organization to the potential paths toward knowledge and innovation. “If you look at an organization that wants to grow in an environment that is uncertain, a lot of experimentation can be done very inexpensively using digital tools,” says Chan. “See the technology that you already have and strategically use that technology.”
