Episode 52: The Leftovers, Season Two

In the second installment of a three part series breaking down the meticulously crafted and thought provoking HBO series The Leftovers, hosts Chris Thompson and Michael Shields seek to interpret one of the most penetrating television shows of all time. The Leftovers is the supernatural mystery drama created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, based on Perrotta's novel of the same name. The series begins three years after the "Sudden Departure," a global event that resulted in 2% of the world's population disappearing. In season two, the show's location shifts from Mapleton, New York to the fictional town of Jarden, Texas. This town is unique in that not a single citizen disappeared in the Sudden Departure. In this episode Chris and Michael explore the weighty themes put forth in the second season, hail the tremendous acting chops of the enthralling cast of characters (particularly by Regina King and Carrie Coon), unpack the emotionally charged and riveting season finale, and explore with zest one of the most novel and thought-provoking episodes in the history of television, “International Assassin.”
