#110 Jameela Jamil: Being an Ally

Hello and welcome to the Wanna Be Podcast! A behind the scenes look at the opportunities available in the creative and entertainment industries so you can get to

where you wanna be 30 minutes or less. I am of course your host, Imriel Morgan

There are very few episodes that I record that just shake me up inside and fill me with joy but the two this season were Elaine Welteroth and last week’s episode with Tasha Reiko Brown who’s hands are truly blessed! If you’re trying to get in celebrity makeup then hit her up!

For the season finale, I’m very excited to bring you this week’s guest! Jameela Jamil is an actress, model, activist and former BBC Radio 1 radio presenter! You might know her from T4 or as Tahani from The Good Place. Jameela is the founder of iWeigh the platform and podcast that challenges society's definition of worth through weight by asking different thought-leaders, performers, activists, influencers, and friends about how they are working through their past shame to find where their value truly lies.

In today’s episode, I wanted to learn about Jameela’s resilience and she holds nothing back. Jameela is candid about her past experiences with family trauma, being a carer, overcoming her mental health. She shares how and why she’s able to be fearless and push past the constant online criticism. We uncover what it takes for her to come back after she gets it wrong online. She also shares what it means to be a good ally in the height of Black Lives Matter and beyond!

So I’ll be perfectly honest, I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect for Jameela! She gets a lot of backlash online and I cannot even begin to imagine it but she keeps fighting, apologising and trying and I can’t help but respect it.
