#215 The Power Of Meditation and the Science Behind It (with Dr. Amishi Jha)

This week I’m joined by Dr. Amishi Jha! Dr. Amishi is a professor of psychology at the University of Miami and Director of Contemplative Neuroscience for the Mindfulness Research and Practice Initiative. She studies mindfulness meditation and writes about the observable affects it has on brains and our attention, and is the author of Peak Mind: Find Your Focus, Own Your Attention, Invest 12 Minutes a Day.
In this episode Amishi explains in detail how our minds operate in terms of our focus and attention. What is happening neurologically at any given moment and how do our environment and our internal states affect this? How does mindfulness meditation affect this? The answer is…A LOT. If you had any skepticism around the power of meditation, allow Dr. Amishi to quell any suspicion and to, in fact, present you with the evidence. Of course, we discuss the spiritual and transcendental aspects of meditation, too, as we both believe there is more going on than we can currently measure. The potential is of what is and what could be is inspiring!
