Trans Athletes Speak Out

Recently, swimmer Lia Thomas made history when she became the first known transgender athlete to win a division I National championship in any sport. Predictably, the blowback has been intense. With so much conversation again focused on trans athletes, we wanted to bring you an episode we did last year that features two groundbreaking trans athletes telling their own stories.

First CeCé Telfer, the first openly trans woman to win a National Collegiate Athletic Association title, joins Imara to discuss her historic win, how the attacks on trans girls in sports is rooted in anti-Black racism, and how she continues to follow her passion despite the backlash.

Plus, Chris Mosier, the first openly trans athlete to represent the US in an international competition, comes on the show to discuss his career and the importance of making space for other trans athletes. And, for our moment of Trans Joy this episode, we celebrate Luca Page who started RadicallyFit, a gym that centers queer, trans, POC, big bodied and fat identified people.
