63. Esther Abrami
This week’s guest is French violinist, internet sensation and famed cat lover, Esther Abrami. Esther has been at the forefront of bringing classical music to a multitude of digital platforms, reaching new audiences and creating online communities.
Seb and Verity chat to Esther about her debut singles for Sony Classical and her upcoming album release. The focus of the album is on bringing great works by female composers Into the spotlight, having been largely ignored until now. Esther discusses how she made the bold decision to strike out online when still at music college and the resistance she faced from staff and peers. She talks about the different styles of her videos, laying herself bare by posting practise sessions and going viral with the infamous ‘cats in pouch’ video.
They discuss different approaches to presenting yourself in performance, being daunted by TikTok and whooping in concerts! Esther also tells them about meeting and performing with a huge inspiration to her, Ibrahim Maalouf and the terrifying prospect of having to improvise in front of his audience.
