60a. Mike Lewis

In episode 60 Seb and Verity take a virtual trip to Minneapolis to meet saxophonist and bassist, Mike Lewis. Mike is a member of internationally acclaimed indie folk band, Bon Iver as well as numerous other groups including Happy Apple, Fat Kid Wednesdays, Alpha Consumer and the excellently named, Sad Sax of Shit.


In an interesting reversal of roles, it is Bon Iver superfan Seb who has to restrain his inner fanboy at the start of this episode.


They chat about Bon Iver’s incredible NPR concert, how they keep shows fresh, improvisation and the development of songs during a touring cycle. Mike talks about the ‘terror and beauty’ in using a Messina and has an excellent stab at explaining how it works.


Seb and Verity ask Mike about his experiences of People festival in Berlin - including abduction concerts and the formation of some unlikely musical collaborations.
