Lockdown 2.0

Our eleventh episode, after another long old break, covers the impact of Covid19 again, with lockdown 2.0 kicking off and considerations for the sector at large, we also consider the impact of lockdown and restrictions on retailers at large, not just food retailers, and why even being open in December isn't necessarily solving all the problems.

We also discuss independents and how help may be offered to those stores struggling with another set of restrictions, with some thoughts on why you wouldn't opt for a brain surgeon who had trained himself on YouTube (stay with me!)

Lastly, we get on the soapbox and consider with all the committees, sub-committees, groups, subgroups, planning, place, degrees, planning teams, council leaders and everyone else seemingly - why does no one actually seem to stand up for retail?

We saw the best of retail in the lockdown, with chains adapting rapidly to focus on serving the customer, reverting back to the core of the business, goods to shelf and money in the tills. However, it gets no help in the wider world but plenty of people claiming to be 'filling' but delivering nothing but empty shelves.

The "Grocery Insight" podcast from Steve Dresser, CEO of Grocery Insight, a consultancy and retail advisory firm helping several leading retailers and executives. Alongside this, Steve is a Vend top 10 retail influencer as well.

Our podcast focuses on the news from the retail sector in 2020 and beyond (and back!) covering retail, bemoaning the state of shops and on Steve being 'the most cynical man in retail'.
