    Cork City was burned down on the night of December 11th 1920. It's hard to fathom that now. It's only by seeing the scale of the disaster in photos of its aftermath that we can imagine what the terror on the streets was like. Well it was the closing night of The Gondoliers in Cork Opera House, and that's the starting point for Ger Fitzgibbon's novel "Songs for a Burning City", as he told Elmarie in studio.
