EP50: Mad Skillz l Rapper & Songwriter

Welcome to the 50th episode of the Silent Giants podcast! This is a major milestone and we're forever grateful to all of the Silent Giants who shared their stories and to YOU our listeners! We're forever grateful!

This week’s Silent Giant is Grammy nominated rapper, songwriter and Virginia legend, Mad Skillz. Skillz is largely credited or being the first artist to put Virginia hip-hop on the map but built an amazing career as a ghostwriter for some of the biggest rap artists of all-time. Currently Skillz holds a teaching position at the University of Richmond at the School of Professional and Continuing Studies.

In this interview I connect with Mad Skiilz in our hometown of Richmond, Virginia to chat about his early life, how he broke into the music industry with Missy Elliot and Timbaland, connecting with DJ Clark Kent, his first record deal with Atlantic back in the 90s, his career as a ghostwriter, chats about his latest EP ‘I’m the DJ & The Rapper’ and a whole lot more.
