Alex Hoffler and Stacey O'Gorman of The Meringue Girls - My Big Idea #14
Both trained chefs, Alex and Stacey formed The Meringue Girls after working together in a restaurant in Hackney. The two noticed the lack of female chefs in the catering industry, and subsequently, the lack of meringues. Alex and Stacey decided to kill two birds with one stone, creating the predominantly female baking brand.
The two started off selling their confectionary in popular markets such as London's Broadway Market and made a connection with Jamie Oliver's food photographer, David Loftus. With his help, Meringue Girls took off, and is now attracting clients including Dior, Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Agent Provocateur, Adidas, Nike and Topshop.
Alex and Stacey tell Asos editor Caroline Ferry about how they began Meringue Girls, sexism in the catering industry and their plans for the future.
This is Alex and Stacey's big idea
