I Wonder What It’s Like To Be Dyslexic?

Sam Barclay is a graphic designer, photographer and author of the book ‘I Wonder What it’s Like to be Dyslexic’.

Dyslexia is a subject very close to my heart, both my husband and I are dyslexic and have unsurprisingly passed it on to our children. This book absolutely gripped me from page one, mainly because Sam isn’t a dyslexic specialist but he is, himself, dyslexic.

His book makes it really easy for people to understand what it’s like to have dyslexia and in particular, what the difficulties associated with reading.

I was delighted to welcome Sam to the podcast to talk through what it’s like to be dyslexic.

We touched on everything from graphics and typeface to the creativity and communication skills that many people with dyslexia have. There are so many resources for the subject, but ones that I particularly like are Helen Arkyll Dyslexia CentreDo it Profiler.com, and Crested.org.uk.

I’ll leave you with my favourite dyslexia quote from one of the most famous dyslexics, Albert Einstein. “Everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing it is stupid.”
