Ep.43 Tessa Metcalfe - Mizog Art Podcast
In this episode Gary Mansfield talks to jeweller Tessa Metcalfe (@tessametcalfe).
When growing up in London’s East End, Tessa took great joy watching the pigeons scampering around in search of food and was taken aback when she heard them referred to as vermin. She did not see these beautiful birds as dirty creatures, as most others around her did.
When studying illustration at University, Tessa attended a casing class and was shown how to make castings, she decided to cast a pigeon’s foot and from there evolved the idea of celebrating these ‘looked down upon’ birds, giving them the identity they deserved.
From casting with gold, then adding gems, the self-taught jeweller from the East End quickly became one of the UK’s most exciting jewellers.
