29: Reproductive Health - The UK Government & Sexual Health Services

This is the third installment in our series of episodes exploring reproductive health, and for this one we’re exploring the impact of the government on our sexual and reproductive health.

We often hear about ‘budget cuts’, ‘austerity’ and ‘cut-backs’, but when you remove the jargon, what does it actually mean? How are our services actually affected? WHO is it affecting? At what rate?

More and more sexual health clinics are having to close by the day, and the ones that are still around are having to reduce their operating hours, and unfortunatley, it will be the most vulnerable people in society who feel that pinch - young LGBTQ+ people, people of colour, people living with HIV and AIDs, victims of abuse and rape.

To help us understand what’s going on and what we can do about it, we sit down with Dr Verity Sullivan, a phenomenal sexual health doctor who’s working on the front line treating patients and educating people on why we cannot afford to lose these services.
