Hon Tanya Plibersek MP - Labor Member for Sydney

This week on In the House and In the Senate I'm joined by Tanya Plibersek, the Labor Member for Sydney. Through her time in Parliament she served as a Cabinet Minister in the Rudd and Gillard Governments and the Deputy Leader of the Labor Party and Deputy Leader of the Opposition from 2013 to 2019.

She is currently the Shadow Minister for Education and Shadow Minister for Women.

Tanya grew up in Sydney, the daughter of migrants from Slovenia. She joined the Labor Party at 15 and went on to study journalism and public policy. During her time in Government, Tanya established the National Rental Affordability Scheme to build 50,000 affordable rental homes, expanded Medicare-subsided dental check-ups for children and convened the National Council to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children amongst much more.

We chat about her first steps into politics, what she is most proud of having achieved so far, we also chat about the Kate Jenkins review - noting that this episode was recorded before the report's release.
