Episode 24: Making it Happen Part 2 with Greg Keidan

In this 3-part series, Taraleigh and Leah talk to three different heroes behind the curtain (aka live music producers and promoters) to highlight all they do to bring live music to the people. Of course, with covid this is a whole new ball game, and these heroes deserve a lot of props for their courage, ingenuity, and innovation. Where would we be without our live music medicine? I don’t even want to know.

Greg Keidan, “Mr. Hat,” offers listeners a glimpse into the life of an independent concert promoter passionate about creating peak experiences for all his events. He shares his unique approach to business, which correlates perfectly with the improv music we love so much, and how he got innovative in times of covid to continue offering peak live music experiences. For the “Did you Know” section, Dr. Leah Taylor talks about the “yes and” philosophy and Taraleigh encourages listeners to adopt a “yes and” day in her “Daily Jam.”

Greg Keidan (better known as Mr. Hat) is an innovative, independent concert promoter based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has been hopefully addicted to producing concerts for over twenty years, producing live music events as Mr. Hat Presents. In 2019 he made waves with a series of successful “Dead Set On The Bay” sunset concert cruises featuring Stu Allen and a rotating cast of all-stars. In 2020, he pandemically pivoted to Cruise-In Concerts featuring psychedelic visuals and novel approaches to delivering peak concert experiences. In previous incarnations, Greg was a neuroscientist and then a researcher and practitioner of civic engagement, working with AmericaSpeaks and The Institute for Local Government to champion inclusive, deliberative, and forward-thinking approaches to involving diverse people in public decision making. Collaboration is the common thread in his unusual career path. Greg was into social distancing before it was cool. His five favorite bands are The Slip, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and ThaMuseMeant.
