In love, feeling low: Maternity Leave with PND - Aisling Brennan

Sinead is joined by Aisling Brennan a paediatric nurse in Crumlin Hospital and mama to Angie (her fur baby) and Daibhí (her baby baby) with her husband 2fm’s Carl Mullan.

The end of maternity leave is full of emotions.

Excitement to reclaim our professional selves.

Sadness the time with our baby is over.

But also maybe some reflection on how tough it can be

We can often go into it thinking it’ll be all coffees and playdates but in reality it can be incredibly isolating and you can feel low and lose a part of yourself.

Supported by her public health nurse, Aisling was allowed the safe space we all need to say how she was feeling and given the treatment her mental health needed to treat everything that had gone on before and allow her to enjoy the now.

This is a much needed open and honest conversation about pre and postnatal mental health, the unsaid truths of maternity leave and how this transition in our lives is so powerful that even Angie knew Aisling needed her protection.
