Eddie Sternberg | How to get a multi-million pound film made, the stress of providing for a family while pursuing your dream and the challenge of time management.

Picture it. Peckham Rye, 2014. It’s a Friday night and I’m joining a friend’s birthday drinks. I’m nervous because I only know one other person there but one of the first people I chat with is @esternberg.director

We immediately bonded over films and, after a brief disagreement over Marvel vs DC, chat about hearing writer, producer and director @rodriguez on a podcast that week. I tell Eddie that if he ever makes a film he too should have a trademark hat.

Eddie mentions a film he’d like to make and something about the way he describes it makes me think he’s absolutely going to get it made.

Fast-forward to 2022 and I Used to Be Famous, the film Eddie told me about that night, is a huge @netflixuk hit - hitting the Top 10 in the U.K. and US charts. It stars @edskrein@eleanormatsuura and @leojlong and earns high praise from critics, including @jameskingmovies and @kermodeandmayo

This podcast tells the story of how the idea Eddie told me about in a bar nearly 10 years ago (a bar that features in the film!) became the hit film it is today. He took risks, made sacrifices, left his ego (but not his hat) at the door and grabbed every opportunity with both hands.

Eddie made his idea, and his dream come true. If he can, so can you.
