Farm Talk Sat 23rd Feb 2019 With John O'Connor
•
Amongst the topics in our Programme this morning..A review of the Brexit situation and the likely impact of a “ NO DEAL BREXIT”
on Irish agriculture and the economy.. Contributions from North & East Cork
ICMSA Chairman, Maurice Walsh, and Pat O’Toole, Senior News Correspondent
with the Irish Farmers Journal..
EU support for the agri-sector if a “ NO DEAL BREXIT” materialises,
is reviewed, but farmers require more details from Brussels about
extent of financial support.
Lane Giles, Teagasc, outlines how farmers are co-operating
with various bodies to restore water quality in 190 agricultural
areas nationwide. The EU may refuse to renew our nitrates
derogation after the 2021 Review, if the drop in water quality is not
reversed. Teagasc is amongst the organisations collaborating
with farmers to restore rivers to full health after a marked
worsening of some waterways due to a number of factors,
not just agricultural activity.
Minster Michael Creed urges farmers to apply online early for
BPS.. The system is now ready to receive online applications.
Ploughing results from Cork West and phone contacts
for listeners wishing to take part in to-morrow’s
match. Richard White, PRO Cork West Ploughing
