Specials - Episode 10 - John Halpin Interview

Yes, yes, we know it's taken a lot longer than planned, but FINALLY, we are able to release the last of our serious of interviews conducted at Brunton Park late last year!

Back at the start of October, prior to the home game against Crewe Alexandra, Lee was lucky enough to travel to Brunton Park to speak to four members of the playing and non-playing staff at the club as part of a series of interviews for the pod.

Following on from the chats we published previously with goalkeeper Tomáš Holý, Cumbrian midfielder Owen Moxon and top-scorer Kristian Dennis, this episode we got the chance to have a chat with a man very much deserving of the title of "Carlisle United Legend" - the one and only John Halpin!

Discussing his long and storied career with the Blues, we covered a number of topics including:

  • What it was like to first move from Scotland to Cumbria back in the mid 80s
  • That goal against Blackburn Rovers
  • How he coped with bad injuries
  • Initially taking on the Football in the Community role
  • Being "joint manager" alongside David Wilkes with Michael Knighton and the Jimmy Glass game
  • And returning to the club and working under Paul Simpson

Big thanks to Halpy for giving up his time to speak to us and also to Andy and Amy from the club's media team for helping to set this up.

We've got some more interviews hopefully coming in the near future so keep an eye out for those!
