This is part one of a two-part episode.

About the book

The story of growing up in the South as a sharecropper in the 1950's.

A deeply-felt account of the girlhood of an African-American, Nibilasha Cushing, who was born in St.Louis, Missouri in 1948 as the sixth child of what she describes as 'a dirt poor family of share-croppers'. This is her extremely revealing and moving memoir about growing up in Eads, Tennessee. This often moving memoir, which is not without touches of humor, reveals a life in the South in the 1960s which in many ways had not changed greatly for at least two generations.
