Dealing with Divorce and Separation

Divorce and Separation.

That’s todays show. How divorce and separation impacts on us dads and how to deal with it.

Mental health is our focus in this chat rather than the practical issues that divorce throws up for blokes…. We will open that Pandora’s in a later episode.

I spoke to Alex Laguna about his work to try and help dads do a better job in Being Dad.

He is dad to no less than 5 kids, a highly successful lighting Director in the Film and TV industry he started  Betterdads.com  and I asked him how he managed after his life fell apart when he went through a traumatic divorce.

Alex mentioned meditation and the impact it had and continues to have on his life. Here are the Apps he mentioned as well as a couple of others:

Insight Timer

Headspace

Waking Up with Sam Harris

Also be sure to check out BetterDads.com there are some great interviews on the site and Alex runs some very useful workshops and courses.

If you are on Facebook Alex keeps you up to date with events and courses here as well so like his page.

Breakups are never easy for anyone… but when there are kids involved it just tends to get messy and heartbreak is unavoidable. As blokes we tend to bottle it all up and just soldier on , mainly because we don’t really know what else to do…until it all comes to a head and … well then what? What can we do, how do we as dads do right by ourselves and by our kids and  even our ex.  I spoke to a guy who has faced this question and has done something about it.

Pete Nicholls is CEO of  Parents Beyond Break-Up who run the Dads in Distress support groups.

Pete and his team run an amazing support network and they are committed to responding to your call without exception. If you don't get through leave a message and they will get back to you as soon as possible.
