A Gamble - Vinland Saga #11 | with Alasdair Beckett-King

In the latest episode of the Anime to Z podcast, hosts Che Lingo (rapper, musician, anime lover) and Bec Hill (comedian, writer, anime-curious) continue on their epic odyssey discussing the highs, lows and hijinks of historical anime Vinland Saga.

Che and Bec speculate on how they would fare as Vikings and deep-dive into the meaning of Valhalla. There’s also discussion of Prince Canute the beaut, a difference of opinion about Askeladd’s intentions and a spear-throwing scene that left both of them speechless.

Plus they are joined in the studio by comedian, animator and YouTuber Alasdair Beckett-King who comes bearing lots of animation knowledge, introduces the concept of ‘ones’ and ‘twos’ and rotoscoping to Che and Bec and waxes lyrical about the characterisation in Vinland Saga.

Thorkell takes Canute hostage and follows after the main army of Denmark. Ragnar objects to Thorkell’s plan to take on the entire army of Denmark, boasting 16,000 soldiers, with only 500 men. Thorkell then begins to tell Ragnar the story of Valhalla, the pride of Normans, a place where only those who die in battle can go.

Vinland Saga season one is now streaming on Prime Video.
